Outdoor kitchens; the summer entertaining dream

The slightest glimpse of summer and we’re suddenly wishing we could take everything outdoors for entertaining…  Here’s a round up of our favourite outdoor kitchen designs for your inspiration:

Raise the bar

This beautiful outdoor kitchen is housed under a pergola and ticks all the boxes where ambience and practicality are concerned.  The horseshoe shape of the kitchen space allows for easy access to the kitchen and garden, while the sides support the wooden canopy and create a bar area for chatting with guests.  When an outdoor kitchen includes taps, a pizza oven and a bar we always get slightly starry eyed…

Paired back luxury

There is something undeniably cool about this all-in-one smooth concrete kitchen.  Built around the iconic ‘big green egg’ barbeque, this masterpiece also features a built in sink, plenty of worktop space and open storage for all that wood!  Garnish with rich wooden chopping boards, herbs and a few bottles of vino and you’ve got a stunning entertaining space in your back garden…  Kitchen concept courtesy of www.wwoo.nl

Crafted from stone

Choosing a local stone, or one already prominent in your garden can be a clever choice when designing your outdoor kitchen area.  Once the shell of the kitchen is in place, you could work with a local stone mason to build the façade, creating a natural, rustic feel that complements the landscape.  With its timeless feel, this patio makes the most of every spare inch by neatly fitting a wooden table and bench in the centre of the kitchen – the scene is set for a perfect summer feast.

Manmade

What could have been a small and uninteresting garden displays a creative use of space in layered, architectural planting and the sleek and contemporary kitchen.  By restricting the palette to anthracite, light concrete, stained wood and lush greenery, the scheme pulls together cohesively.  It’s the modern take on a pizza oven that really gets us excited though…

Ambient evenings

The flicker of firelight, the glows of lamps and the twinkle of fairy lights…  this kitchen is all set for the party to continue into the night.  We especially love the firepit built into the coffee table, and the use of indoor lamps and textiles outside – creating unexpected comfort and warmth in an outdoor space.

Living the dream

While an overhaul this large is maybe not on everyone’s immediate to-do list, we can but dream…  Featuring a hugely impressive fireplace with relaxed seating, the garden design says luxury and  perfection whilst being very inviting and practical in terms of upkeep.  The kitchen is given a shelter of its own to protect the wood and stainless steel finishes from the elements, and create a stand-alone design feature.

Rustic relaxation

With it’s rattan seating, wooden cupboard fronts, and use of natural stone, this kitchen is remniscent of an italian villa, or some chateau set high on the hills of Tuscany.  A case of seeing beauty in the traditional; an antique chandelier, and a slatted wooden ceiling with beams bring in an age-old grandeur which perfectly complements the archways.

Sun drenched

While some outdoor kitchens boast canopies or pergolas, some simply delight in soaking up as many sun rays as possible! A stone built pizza oven is where this kitchen begins and ends, meaning there’s nothing that will become damaged by the weather.  Surrounded by plenty of seating and set on a circular area of decking, this scheme draws from it’s surroundings, leaving the design itself very simple.  Of course, not everyone has a beautiful woodland glade to elegantly drop their kitchen area into…

One-wall beauty

A simple configuration like this one could be easily placed into so many gardens, to create an ambient outdoor dining space.  Weatherproof and wipe-clean surfaces mean it’s extremely practical as well as featuring lots of cupboards space for outdoor entertaining items.  In dark grey, the kitchen itself stands out from the light stone walls, creating a dramatic statement where all eyes are drawn to the meal being prepared.  All set off to perfection by the simple picnic-style wooden bench in the foreground.

Modern Mediterranean

Ok, so any kitchen would look good against this Mediterranean-blue sky…  Crisp and minimalist, the design of this kitchen is comprehensive while being small.  A well-stocked drinks fridge, a steel oven and a overhanging bar area with seating mean no need is overlooked for summer entertaining.  All cleverly fitted under an existing stairway, there’s something so fresh and simple about this design that captures the essence of a holiday or hot Mediterranean climate.
